Life threatening situation? Always call 112

How does the out-of-hours GP service work?

Only for emergencies

The out-of-hours GP service is only there for complaints that are urgent in the evening, night, weekends and during public holidays. Is your complaint not urgent? Then you can visit your own GP the next working day.
Are you unsure whether your complaint is urgent? Go to the homepage and fill in the questions. This way, you can determine within 1 minute whether you need to go to the doctor. You can also find reliable information about illness and health on www.thuisarts.nl . Are you still hesitating after that? Then call the Gorinchem GP Post for consultation.

Call first

There is a short questionnaire on our website. Fill it in first. Then you will immediately receive advice on whether you need to contact the out-of-hours GP service. You can’t just drop by the Gorinchem GP Post. You must call in advance. Then you will get the help you need as quickly as possible.
If you call the number of the Huisartsenpost Gorinchem, you will hear a short menu. In the event of a potentially life-threatening situation, choose 1. We will help you with priority.
Do your symptoms worsen or change? Then contact the out-of-hours GP service again.

Information at hand when you call

Are you calling the Gorinchem GP Post? Then make sure you have the following information at hand:

  • Your health insurance number. This is stated on your policy or on your health insurance card.
  • Your citizen service number (BSN). This is stated on your identity document (passport, identity card or driver’s license) and has 9 digits.
  • The name of your GP.
  • Medications you may be taking.

Are you calling for someone else?

Are you not calling for yourself? Then provide all the details of that person. Also, make sure you are near the patient when you call. You can then describe the complaints as well as possible. Sometimes the triage nurse also wants to ask the patient some questions himself.

What can you expect?

If you call the Gorinchem GP Post, you will get a triage nurse on the phone. They are specially trained to quickly determine how serious your symptoms are and what is needed. This is always done in consultation with the GP who is on duty at the out-of-hours GP service. There are three possibilities:

  • You will receive advice by telephone. The triage nurse will give you an explanation of self-care advice over the phone. This has been checked by the GP.
  • The triage nurse will make an appointment for you at the Gorinchem GP post. There, a GP or nurse will examine you.
  • The GP will visit you at home. A home visit will only take place if you are unable to come to the out-of-hours GP service yourself due to medical reasons.
